When you make your own yogurt, you can dramatically cut your grocery bill. Here is an example from our household:
This month I bought:
2 gallons organic milk
4 gallons whole milk
1 gallon cream
1 pint plain yogurt (for starter)
All totalling about $20.
From this amount of dairy products, I not only made yogurt, but I also made:
5x 3.00 =$15.00
$15.00 would be enough money to buy milk to make 7 gallons of yogurt
um...
5 pints of yogurt or 7 gallons of yogurt... you are looking at a big savings here.
Not only a savings of money, but you get to enjoy a better tasting fresher yogurt and the satisfaction of making it yourself.
I love it! You can actually save money doing it yourself. There are not many things like this left anymore.
I remember how disappointed I was a few years ago, after buying fabric, patterns to sew my own skirt. I ended up paying way more to make my own skirt than I would ever pay for one. So, many things nowadays are like that.
You might only make something yourself because it's healthier or less wasteful or maybe you want to get away from a consumer mindset. However it's a rare treat to make something homemade that is actually much cheaper than what you'd find a the store.
Infact, it's a fraction of what you'd pay.
It's better quality, better tasting, and cheaper!
Because I make homemade yoghurt I am:
Now, factor in the amount you would spend on other foods that you would buy less of if you had an ample supply of yogurt on hand.
No more buying:
Making your own yogurt can save you a lot of money and allow you to customize it to suit your tastes and dietary needs.
Instead of Ice Cream you could be enjoying yogurt smoothies. You can also use yogurt smoothies to replace breakfast cereals in the morning.
You could stock your freezer with yogurt pops so that you always have a healthy snack on hand for the kids (or you). You could enjoy yogurt cheesecake for a treat.
You could even replace soft drinks with kefir soda.
Now, we are looking at a new way of living. One that offers many benefits whether you are looking to get out of debt or to improve your health.
